*Gunpla I'd Like to Build
Return to HomeBack to Projects
The kit. The myth. The legend. What's not to love here? It's a Char Zaku. It's a Ver.Ka
This one is kind of personal. I didn't have much of an interest in the Sazabi when I saw it onthe Gunpla subreddit, but my local used gaming store has a small Gunpla display, and...
It's so cheap! This is what Gunpla fans mean when they talk about the thrill of finding a kit in the wild rather than ordering it. I saw Sazabi on a shelf for below MSRP (a few bucks short of Newtype's sale price, and DOZENS below all the other sites), and I fell in love instantly. In person, it's absolutely HUGE. I'm so enamored.
Jude and I have visited this game store several times over the past months (their Pokemon card bins entice him--he's using them as a dex filler for his living card dex) and this Sazabi hasn't moved in all that time. Perhaps one day I'll take him home with me!
EDIT 4/13/2024: The kit got sold like, two days before Jude planned on buying it as a gift for me. We ended up buying one from Newtype. It's now almost done--I'll post build pics eventually.
Oh man. What a unique frame. The Providence Gundam's DRAGOON pods remind me of early art of saints, with the flat halo behind them. It's just such a striking design. And the out-of-the-box design looks great, but there's also so many cool ways you could customize it. I'd love to make a pair of it with the Moon Gundam and customize them to play off each other--maybe someday I will!
All the Unicorn Gundam frames are so, so rad. I love this black and gold look--there's not a whole lot of black Gundam out there, so this one stands out really well! The gold water slide decals are sick as hell.
Any Gunpla with wings is automatically cool. I very much appreciate the bold wing colors here--it's easy to make something like the Wing Zero look cool, since it's just got white angel wings, but (IMO) it's a little more gutsy to design a frame with multicolor, high-saturation wings that include colors not found elsewhere on the frame. Very cool effect!
One of the things that makes or breaks a Gunpla for me is the feet. There's a cool 30 Minute Missions kit that I'd make in a heartbeat if it didn't have backwards feet. Huge stompers are so polarizing for me, but something about this frame's feet... they're so cool. So non-human, while maintaining the facade of being based on a human. This thing is full of sharp edges and flat planes and with that little element of alien-ness, it looks so futuristic. I can't resist!
Deathscythe inspires a sense of awe in me like it does with any other Gundam fan, but I'm not actually wild about it. This one is actually for a friend of mine, who was really into Gundam Wing back in the day. Deathscythe, specifically the non-Hell version, was their favorite frame (appropriate for a goth!). One day I want to make a really nice version of this kit for them as a gift.
Ahhh, Barbatos. Objectively the best main-character Gundam. Don't email me about this. Whatever other frame you're thinking of, you're wrong. Anyway, all glory be to Barbatos.
I've never watched Gundam SEED, and I don't always like its designs, but when it does something right, it does it way over the top. Strike Rouge is such a neat kit, and pink kits aren't too common--many of them are just openly awful (looking at you, Flauros Ryusei-Go and Guel's Dilanza). But this one is such a nice use of the color. A great break from white, blue, yellow, and red!
The Wing Zero is one of Jude's favorite designs! I picked this kit up for a few bucks below MSRP at the same shop that has the Sazabi I've been drooling over, and it's sitting on my shelf, waiting to be built.
I'm not sure what it is, but Wing Zero inspires so much creativity in Gunpla builders. The Newtype build pictures of this kit are super cool to look through. There's a Burning Phoenix Zero with a skull chestpiece, which is just rad as hell.
Anyway, Jude wants me to make this one next--I am going to hold off until after I practice a little more with the RX-78 and Zaku II starter set, though, because I want it to look nice with panel lining and ppossibly some paint touchup. Once it's done, there's an Etsy seller who makes cool wall mounts for them, and I plan to get one for Wing Zero!
The Gusion Gundam was kind of a bland, squat little green dude when it first showed up in IBO, but after it came into Tekkadan's possession, it got a rebuild and an upgrade that transformed it drastically. This is the end result! I love its huge scissor weapon and its weird little thruster-wings. This is one of my favorite mechs in the Gundam universe, weirdly enough. I'm just sad that there's no further grades than the HG; somewhere out there, the Gusion Rebake has a Full Mechanics kit, but this is where the buck stops for the Full City upgrade, sadly.
This is another kit that I've seen so many interesting customizations for. There was one dude on the subreddit who made a Vtuber-inspired purple and white Moon Gundam! Great execution, questionable taste.
Moon Gundam is a manga that's currently running. I'm adding it to my to-read list, along with Gundam Thunderbolt. The manga series produce so many cool designs!
This is another one I'm making for Jude. Pretty rad as a design! Why aren't there more centaur Gundam?? Centaurs are sexy.
The majesty of a Perfect Grade! The stature of a 1/60 scale! The Astray frame! This is a really pricy kit, but it's so, so beautiful. The Astray is edgy in a very good way, and its gimmicks are multitudinous. Someday I'll be a good enough builder to deserve this kit...
This is a resin conversion kit! Conversion kits are usually too expensive for me to drool over much, but at $99, this isn't horribly expensive. And it looks beautiful! It helps quite a bit that Barbatos is one of my favorite frames, and from the first Gundam series I watched...
Another conversion kit, this time from the Crossbone series. Crossbone also deserves the unique texture of a resin garage kit--it's just such a cool touch :). It's a little more expensive than the Barbatos conversion kit, but still not massively expensive. Another kit to aspire to!
I... hate SD Gunpla. I'm just not a big fan of the Super Deformed look overall (except when it comes to Rock Lee SD, which is high art). But admittedly, I really like the designs of the SD Gundam World Heroes frames... I just wish they were taller. But for prices between $8-12, I can stomach the shortness.
I refuse to admit how much I like them, so I'm packing them all together into one gallery. You SD fuckers are on thin ice.
Perfect kit. No notes.
